The Book Circle Program
The book circle program offers a safe place for preteens and teenagers to come together and discuss a book that they are reading as a group. With time and guidance, our teens develop skills to think critically about the literature they are reading and to relate books to their own lives.
Currently we support four book circles at the elementary school level and five book circles at the secondary school level. In addition, our secondary scholars are required to participate in bi-monthly book circle gatherings, lead by community reading mentors.
Our students have enjoyed a variety of classics such as JK Rowling’s Harry Potter, Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White and Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt. In addition, they have explored books that represent their own culture such as Colibri by Ann Cameron, Caminar by Skila Brown, and The last Road by Alexandra Diaz.
