The Traveling Library Program
The traveling libreary program organized by La Puerta Abierta Learning Center, collaborates with 4 Sparks Foundation partnering schools. The schools receive visits from an enthusiastic librarian on a weekly basis. While children are exposed to reading and interactive activities, classroom teachers gain training in how to incorporate literacy into their curriculum. Most schools in rural Guatemala have limited resources and books are sparse. In addition to engaging students with a story hour, classes also receive a rotating set of books on a weekly basis, allowing students to have a window of time to connect with stories in a meaningful way.
